Metal Halide Light Sources

Features at a glance:

Metal halide technology explained

Metal halide light sources use a discharge lamp which is much brighter than the equivalent wattage of halogen lamp. This is due to their higher efficiency.

These light sources are used where a brighter, punchier light is required. Metal halide lamps typically have a longer life than halogen, so are the preferred choice when lamp changes need to be less frequent.

Unlike halogen lamps where light output is instantaneous, metal halide discharge lamps take a short time to warm up before full power output is achieved. Due to the lamps being physically larger than their halogen equivalents, these light sources are also generally larger.

Discharge lamps are not dimmable but our decorative light sources can be supplied with a dimmer wheel. This is best used with larger diameters of fibre and is controlled by a separate electrical feed or by a switch on the light source.
