The award-winning Gleneagles Hotel is one of Scotland's most luxurious 5-star resorts. Established in 1924 by the former Caledonian Railway Company, the French chateau soon became known as a 'Riviera in the Highlands' and ninety years later continues to remain dedicated to providing excellence just as it did in the early days.

Boasting an exhilarating array of outdoor leisure activities including three championship golf courses, shooting and equestrian schools, fishing, falconry, tennis and squash, Gleneagles truly makes the most of its 850 acre space. Inside the world-famous resort guests can enjoy the finest of comforts from the plush bedrooms, fine dining experiences, to the calming ambience of the multi-award winning spa by ESPA.

UFO was commissioned by Lighting Design International to supply a fibre optic lighting system that would illuminate textured glass panels in the hotel's ESPA spa. The brief required the lighting to create the illusion of water running down a feature screen to create a calming and serene effect for spa goers.

We achieved this by installing our stainless steel round paver fittings in the floor behind the textured glass panels. The pavers featured an internal domed lens with a clear glass cover over the front that provided greater light output and enabled the light to travel further up the glass panels. Our 150 watt tungsten halogen light sources were used to power the fibre optics and were favoured over metal halide models due to the warmer colour temperature that they provide.

The overall effect of the trickling water was very convincing and ensured that those who enter the spa feel cocooned in a relaxed and tranquil environment.
