Museum & Gallery Display Lighting Projects

The Harley Davidson Museum

Milwaukee, USA

Motorcycle history roars to life at the Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee. The uber trendy landmark building which is situated on a 20 acre campus on the Menomonee riverfront, houses the best of American design and culture together with lashings of freedom and rebellion.
Visitors can browse thousands of artefacts and 450 motorcycles which date back to the very first serial number, view archives which have never been seen before, and listen to stories of extraordinary products, people, history and Harley-Davidson culture, before heading to the gift shop and snapping up merchandise which isn't available anywhere else.
UFO was tasked with manufacturing and installing a fibre optic lighting system in various motorcycle exhibits throughout the American museum. It was vital that the lighting system emitted very little noise and gave off no heat or UV rays which could damage the items on display, so fibre optic was chosen to meet these specific requirements.
Eight of our CX4 gantries were customised with our mini downlight fittings before being installed in the museum's display cabinets. The downlights were chosen due to their directional and focusable nature which allowed the light to be tilted and pointed where it was needed most.
An Ixion 100 watt halogen light source was used to power each gantry and was discreetly concealed within the base of the display cabinets thanks to its diminutive size.
