We recently had the pleasure of supplying a bespoke fibre optic lighting system for the High Line Spring Benefit in New York City. The charity benefit is one of the many events organized each year by Friends of the High Line and provides an opportunity to honor its supporters and raise vital funds for the maintenance and development of the public landmark.
The well-known park area is built on a 1.45 mile-long elevated section of historic railroad on the west side of Manhattan and attracts around 8 million visitors annually, who immerse themselves in the scenic views, sundeck, miniature forest and public art installations.
Earlier this year our American agents, SDA Lighting, were asked by Friends of the High Line and event designers Van Wyck and Van Wyck to specify a fibre optic lighting systems that would decoratively adorn the stage area at the Spring Benefit and turned to UFO to manufacture the system.
In response we fabricated a 30ft long PMMA side sparkle fibre harness that was suspended from the venue’s ceiling and draped around the stage to create a dramatic shimmering curtain of light. Our 90w Sirius decorative light source with standard colour wheel was connected to the harness, allowing the fibre curtain to transition through a series of colours adding some extra pizazz to the evening’s proceedings.
